Dear Students,

Dodane: 2017-09-12 9:12:10

We are delighted that you have chosen Wrocław University of Technology! We wish you successful studies and a nice stay in our city.

While studying at our university you can enroll in a language course at the Department of Foreign Languages ( http://www.sjo.pwr.edu.pl/2351896,131.dhtml). We would like to give you the most important information on completing the course.

At the Department of Foreign Languages we teach 7 languages: English, French, Spanish, Japanese, German, Polish and Russian.

The course levels are designed in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). You can choose courses at the following levels: Elementary A1 and A2, Intermediate B1, Upper-intermediate B2, Advanced C1.

To determine your language proficiency level, you should take a placement test which is available in English, German, French, Spanish and Russian. The results of the test will indicate which course level you should choose. If you have not studied a given language before, you should choose A1 level (please notice that foreign language courses are conducted in Polish). You will be given access to the placement test via email from the Department of Foreign Languages.

ENROLLMENT

Foreign languages in general

The current schedule (available also in English) of the foreign language classes can be found at AKZ, the University online schedule: http://akz.pwr.edu.pl/katalog_zap_en.html. Please note that the courses are conducted in Polish, which is particularly important for level A1, A2. Once you have chosen a suitable course, at the level established earlier during the placement test, you enroll in the course at DWM (Dział Współpracy Międzynarodowej – the International Office) with Ms Anna Wójcik anna.wojcik@pwr.edu.pl by e-mail titled “TIMETABLE FOR ERASMUS STUDENTS 09_2017”. The deadline for enrollment is 25.09.2017!

Courses of German language

There are also language courses in German designed for Erasmus students only and conducted in English. You enroll in such a course by directly emailing the teacher iwona.frankiewicz@pwr.edu.pl. The list of groups available this semester can be found below. The deadline for enrollment is 25.09.2017!

Courses of Polish language

Moreover, as Erasmus students you also have the opportunity to learn the basics of Polish language – each Erasmus student has a chance to enroll in a Polish language course and a Polish History Course, both run by the teachers from the Department of Polish Language for Foreigners. Please, enrol through Ms Anna Wojcik anna.wojcik@pwr.edu.pl . Provide course name, course and group code. The list of groups available this semester can be found below.

Courses of Japanese language

As our Japanese language courses are run in English, you are invited to take part in one of them as well. Please, enroll through Ms Anna Wójcik anna.wojcik@pwr.edu.pl. Provide course name, course and group code, teacher’s name. The list of groups available this semester can be found below.

COURSE CHANGES

You can make any changes to the course only within the first 10 days of the term. If you don’t make any changes, you’ll stay in a group and receive a grade (positive or negative, if you fail to attend classes) at the end of semester.

If you want to change the language or level of your course after enrollment time, please check if there are any free places available (the number of free places in the course is shown next to the course at the AKZ website http://akz.pwr.edu.pl/index_en.html in column “Availability”). Then you have to fill in the Course Annulment Application available at http://www.sjo.pwr.edu.pl/2352114,131.dhtml (remember to write down a reason for the change) and send it to marta.hamryszak-sierpowska@pwr.edu.pl or hand it to Ms Marta Sierpowska in person to H-4 building room 104.

The third step is to go to the teacher who conducts your newly chosen course and ask him/her to enroll you. You can also reserve the place via e-mail (you can find the name of the teacher at AKZ, the e-mail address for teachers is created as follows: teacher’s_firstname.surname@pwr.edu.pl). The reservation will be cancelled unless you come to the next class.

COURSE RESIGNATIONS

If you have reserved a place on a course, but you wish to resign, please fill in the Course Annulment Application available at http://www.sjo.pwr.edu.pl/2352114,131.dhtml and send it to Ms Marta Sierpowska via email (marta.hamryszak-sierpowska@pwr.edu.pl) or hand it in person (H4 building, Room 104). The deadline for resignation – the first 10 days of the term, so the 12.10.2017. If you do not do it, you stay in the group.

If you prolonged your stay at our university and attended foreign language during the summer semester, you don’t have to take a placement test, you can just continue the language course in the winter semester, choosing the upper level. In case you want to choose another foreign language, please take a placement test.

If you decided to enroll in a foreign language course, you have to write this course in your Changes to Learning Agreement (in case you do not have it yet in your Learning Agreement) and you need to attend the classes regularly. At the end of the course, like all other students, you will receive a grade and the number of ECTS points awarded for the given course. If you do not attend the course you have enrolled in, you will fail the course and you will have a deficit of ECTS points. Please note that it is not enough to remove a course from your Changes to LA. You also need to actually deregister from the course in our JSOS system (through Course Annulment Application)
